Cross-Cultural Adoption
Last Friday while doing my Christmas shopping I whipped out my handy-dandy credit card to make a purchase. My credit card has my picture on it. The lady behind the counter informed me that I look older than the picture on my card - "This picture must have been taken a long time ago," she said. I was shocked and could only think to say, "Well, good thing you're not on my Christmas list."
So how can we handle the rude comments that come from people toward our foster or adopted children and/or families?
What is the best way to educate our friends and family about international or interracial adoption?
Two adoptive mothers, Amy Coughlin and Caryn Abramowitz have written a great new book, "Cross-Cultural Adoption - How to Answer Questions from Family, Friends, and Community." This book, in it's Q & A format, address 18 different commonly asked questions and comments from well-meaning people in our every day lives. With responses geared toward adults and children, this book would be a great addition for any adoptive family or their extended family and friends.
Read this great excerpt from the book, "Cross-Cultural Adoption: The Do's and Don'ts for Grown-Ups" and enjoy.
