New Law Affecting Texas Adoptees

Monday September 5, 2005
Adult adoptees in Texas can now obtain a copy of their original birth certificates thanks to a new law that took effect on September 1, 2005.
You must have each of the following plus 9 dollars to file for the document:
  • The names of your birth parents.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid government issued photo ID.
  • Provide other legal documentation if your name has changed.

  • Go to the Texas Department of State Health Services for the form.
