11 Children Found in Cages

Tuesday September 13, 2005
In the small town of Wakeman, Ohio, 11 children were found to be kept in 9 small cages - 40 inches high and 40 inches deep - within their home. The children range in age from 1 to 14 and have a variety of disabilities such as Autism. The cages were rigged with alarms and did not have blankets or pillows. One of the boys claimed to have been sleeping in a cage for 3 years. The 11 children were in the care of their adoptive or foster parents, Sharen and Mike Gravelle who seemed reserved when the children were removed from the home by Sheriff Deputies. The couple denied any kind of abuse.
As of last night, no charges have been filed; all of the children have been placed into foster care.
