Read the news anywhere in the United States and you may find articles about babies found in dumpsters, alleys, and this summer, a port-a-john. Some feel the best way to keep this from happening is to advocate for safe haven laws, where women can leave their infants anonymously. Others feel that this is not the answer. Guest author Erik L. Smith has this to say in his new article:
- "Proponents of safe haven laws often argue that a mother's fundamental privacy right entitles her to anonymity when abandoning her newborn to the state. That notion is a complete perversion of constitutional law."
