Getting Ready for the Holidays Means Preparing for Developmental Grief

Monday November 28, 2005
During the holidays we tend to see more sadness and moodiness from our sons. This may be developmental grieving or grief that surrounds a traumatic anniversary. Anniversaries can include the day a child was removed from his/her birth home or past foster home, or holidays and birthdays. my son may not remember why he is moody, sad, angry, or regressing in behaviors; but somewhere in his body the memory lives on and still haunts him.

So be prepared for this type of grieving in your home this holiday season and when stumped on why things seem to be going south, look to the calendar. It may give you a clue!
