Friends Through Guatemalan Adoption Sends "Moms on a Mission"

The Cincinnati, Ohio based organization, “Friends Through Guatemalan Adoption,” is sending a group of women who call themselves "Moms on a Mission" to Guatemala this summer. The trip, scheduled July 15-July 22, will be the group's second trip to Guatemala and is made up of women who have adopted from the country, women who just want to help children and teen girls. The group's focus will be on working in "hogars," or Guatemalan orphanages, and special care facilities. The teens will be working on building stoves and buying kitchen supplies as well as cleaning and painting the hogars.
According to the groups 2006 Coordinator, Michelle Hanavan, there is no public welfare system in Guatemala. There is no government aid or help to run the orphanages. There are an estimated 25,000 children in orphanages and another 20,000+ children living on the streets. There is a great need for donations. To learn more about "Moms on a Mission" and how to send donations with the group go to www.ftga.net or email the group at missiontrip@ftga.net for more information.
