Snow Day Activities for Your Foster or Adopted Children

Thursday December 27, 2007
So, are you enjoying your winter break with the kids?

Yes, we've been having snow here like crazy. One day it was 70 degrees and the next morning it was freezing rain. Then a blizzard blew in with 40 mph wind and 6-8 inches of snow. It's snowing again right now. Freezing in the morning, heat wave by noon, with a tornado on the side. That's life here in the Plains.

So, we've already had one snow day and now we're on winter break. What are some of your favorite snow day activities that have been successful with your foster or adopted children? Post your thoughts by clicking "comments" below.

We adopted teenage sisters. On snow days we would rent movies and veg on the couch talking about everything and nothing. They were always teen type chick flicks or family type. We have lots of warm memories of the time spent together doing “nothing.”

That is so cool.

I remember snow days being sleep in days…then bundling and unbundling a hundred times to go out in the snow.

Thanks for sharing one of your memories with us.

I presently foster a four year old girl and an eighteen month boy. After spending a frustrating fifteen minutes to get them both warmly dressed to play in the snow, mittens misplaced and boots on the wrong foot, I scurried them out to the backyard with gate locked. My retired neighbour looked on with a smile as he was bundled up tight and I had only a short sleeved shirt on. Giving myself only enough time to get back to putting a jacket on, I found the little guy rescued from a face plant in the snow, screaming his head off and definitely distressed about the situation since his mittens had fallen off as well. My first thought was to warm him up, and my second was to return the two back into the house. So much for the winter wonderland and fresh air. Always always have the four year old use the bathroom beforehand. I learned my lessons well. Next time, we watched the snowflakes from indoors and shared some cookies and milk. Do I feel guilty - NOT !!!!!!

That was the funniest thing I’ve read in such a long time! Thank you!!!

Let’s see - a choice between bundling little ones up for a day in wet snow or sharing cookies & milk in a warm house……..

I think you’re awesome by the way.
