The Lack of a Medical History Is no Secret to Adoptees

Monday January 21, 2008

Have you ever checked out the Web site, Post Secret? I love it. People mail in anonymous post cards that declare a deep, dark secret. Some of them are funny, zanny or just plain weird. But there are some that are just crushingly sad. Such as, "I'm afraid that I won't be strong enough to raise my son to be the man his father failed to be." Or written across a picture of Lindsay Lohan, "Her problems are now mine."

Recently a forum member shared a Post Secret postcard that spoke to her as an adoptee. It stated, "Your family has a high rate of melanoma. But we can't warn you because you were given up for adoption. Please get checked!"

Secrets shared with the universe in the hopes of feeling a sense of redemption or understanding. I think it's one of the coolest projects to grace the Internet.

What do you think of this Post Secret postcard? Click "comments" below to post to the blog or visit the forum where a discussion has already started.
