Another Russian Adoptee Has Died, Adoptive Mother & Father in Jail
Unfortunately, this is not the first time we have discussed the death of adopted children. There have been about 12 Russian adoptees murdered at the hands of their adoptive parents since 1996.
TheMoscowTimes.com has reported yet another death of a Russian adoptee. According to the report, 14-month-old Nikolai, adopted in February, died March 7, 2008, at a Utah hospital.
"An autopsy determined that the child had died from a skull fracture that doctors said was the result of blunt-force trauma, police and court records show. The infant also had a bruised face, head, knee and anus."
The child's adoptive father, Fyodor Emelyantsev, 31, a Russian citizen, reported to the authorities that on March 6, the toddler had fallen. The child's adoptive mother, Kimberly Emelyantsev, 33, declined to speak with police. The couple had also adopted a 4-year-old son in December, who was suffering from extreme dehydration and undernourishment. He had been in the hospital 3 times since his adoption and a feeding tube was inserted to help him gain weight.
Adoptive mom, Kimberly Emelyantsev, was charged with one count of first-degree murder. A felony charge of child abuse was filed a day later. Adoptive dad, Fyodor Emelyantsev, was also charged with one count of felony child abuse in the case of the 4-year-old child. The Emelyantsevs were being held in jail without bail, but adoptive dad was allowed to attend a graveside burial service for his infant son. He was, of course, accompanied by jail officers.
The couple have 2 biological children, 10 and 5, as well as another adopted Russian child, 2. The report stated that the children are with relatives.
There are reports that the 2 children arrived in the United States with medical issues. The 4-year-old was under weight and the deceased toddler, Nikolai, suffered from seizures. So, is this a case of very ill children, new to the States and in the process of getting medical help, but help didn't arrive soon enough? Adoptive parents parenting children beyond their skill level? Or, straight up abuse?

This sounds horrific. It sounds from the description, the children were abused. Why are children, particularily from Russia abused at the hands of their adoptive parents? I’ve read of abuse cases of children fostered and adopted in the US but not much else with the exception of Russia. What is going on?
The father should have been charged with murder as well. This is strait up abuse, physical and possibly sexual as well. It is disgusting. They need to have all of their children taken away from them forever, and they should never be allowed to adopt again.
I am close family of the Emelyantsev’s. They spent the last year going through Russian courts and procedures, spent a great deal of money, bought a bigger home, and worked to have Kim at home in order to make a home for these two boys. They wanted to give these children a chance for a good life where they would be nourished, loved, and cared for by all of us. They knew what they would be dealing with because they have a daughter with Down’s Syndrome. We are apalled by the fact that our justice system here has turned our heroes into another set of victims. They did not hurt these children and have been fighting to save them and bring them home from the terrible situation they were in. This has caused misunderstanding and misplaced anger at the very people who are mourning the loss of their beloved little boy. This has ripped apart the existing little family they have as well. No wrong or harm was done. How can we call this justice? We stand in sick awe and helpless desperation.
The thing that is sad is that media, including this site, have SOME information that is correct, some that is wrong, and plenty left out. Readers have forgotten that everything they read is not unbiased or correct. These parents, my friends, and the rest of our family are in a nightmare. They went above and beyond what most of us do to help a disabled child, and when tiny Nikolai couldn’t survive, people who don’t know the truth blame them.

Thank you Rochelle for bringing a personal voice to this tragic story. As an adoptive parent who has gone through false allegations – I hear what you are saying – but can not say “I understand” as I have not experienced trauma to this degree. It wouldn’t ring true.

Yes this is a horrific crime, most families that adopt children are only in it for the money. They don’t really care about these kids. I don’t buy the fact that these people are innocent. They hurt these kids, NO ONE ELSE DID THIS!! and Rochelle Christley you can say what you want about how loving this family is. Sounds like someone was a perverted person in the family.. a child only 14-month old. We are not stupid on this site so don’t assume we are. So I ask you Rochelle WHO DID THIS ABUSE TO THESE CHILDREN?? Did the child fall like the father stated and sustained ALL those injuries and why did the mother decline to speak with police IF SHE DIDN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO HIDE!! Hi, I can’t bolive this things are happening to this kids. This is horible. Why this people are spending soo much time and money to adopt and to kill this kids. They have to take lots of tests before they will odapt a child. This people are f****g sick. They are murderers not heroes. They need help they don’t need to adopt a child. It is sad, I wish God will Bless and protect the innocent of this world. I odapted 2 dogs LABS. One from Middle EAST and one from FL, US. I love them sooo much even when they are destroying my expensive shoes. They are sweet and smart.
I am the one who brought the first 4 year old from Russia. He weighted little bit over 8 kg and when I was detained he was 9.5 lb and that was 1.5 – 2 months later. At the same time he had problems with adjusting to the new formula and it took at least 3-4 weeks to adjust him to the new formula (he had diarrhea and other problems). I cannot possibly understand where was my problem in that case. The only problem I had that I had no money for attorneys (I spent everything on my wife and I never thought I would end up in jail) and had crappy relatives that did everything they could to steal my kids. I spent total of 65000 $ for both adoptions (my benefit would be that they both would have free medical care, I made too much to qualify for extra from the government- I was a nurse by a profession – there was no personal gain or intent). I cannot discuss my wife. I was into adoption for the right reason and I have not forced anyone into it (not my wife not any one else). I received no help in anyway form my relatives, my church. From my neighbors I got a bag of used clothe. It was a shock from hell to learn that I was detained for my son that I only had a chance to have for 1.5 month, it would take a slightly intelligent person about a second to know that I was not guilty of his condition. I spent over 3.5 months in jail and got no apology. Pretty much I adopted the kid so I can go to jail. There was no comprehension from anyone that it is impossible to malnourish a kid within 1.5 month from 8 kg to 9.5 kg. It is actually the other way around. No one also knows that 4 days later I was attacked by cops in Iron county (tazered relentlessly, raped in the local hospital by nurses (using catheter to get urine) and accused of DUI and avoiding arrest (I got 2 years for that, at the same time police found mysterious prescription medication from Russia but packaged in American bottles (so stupid). I spent 3.5 more weeks in jail, plead guilty to that although have not being drinking a single shot of alcohol for other 14 years (since I became LDS. And never thought that I ever could be arrested for DUI (I thought if I do not drink it is impossible to arrest me for something that I do not do).
There is NO WAY that you didn’t have a hand in murdering this baby, who else could have done these horrible things to this infant. He was in your care, you even said that “he had fallen” I could see you saying that the child fell ok if it was just a bump on his head but for ALL of this hideous stuff to happen…Why would you lie to the authorities about something so severe as this?? This child died from a skull fracture from blunt-force trauma, bruised face and head bruised knee and a bruised anus…who was molesting this baby…your wife?? I guess one of the neighbors, so you are saying that NONE of this happened to this baby? yes you both should be in jail where you were to Rot like a dead animal and never let out. You guys are disgusting to my stomach, it’s in the papers all the time about parents killing their kids and then you LIE so gracefully like nothing ever happened…STOP LYING AND TELL THE TRUTH YOU WILL REST BETTER AT NIGHT OR… MAYBE NOT!!

I would completely agree on the case of adoptive parents that there could be false accusations. oh up until the part that the child is dead, not bruised or cut up. but not alive. so that makes a different case of it.
Fyodor Emelyantsev u are very sick…and please stop pretending that you had nothing to do with this. This makes me SICK to see that…u had no medical coverage? PLEASE!!!!! Ow and, u only got one bag of clothes and no help from church? NO ONE ix expected to help you…u are a GROWN MAN WHO NEEDS TO SUPPORT THESE KIDS…not KILL THEM…and yes, YOU WILL HAVE TO talk to God about this…u won’t be able to lie to him..my prayers go to the little boy and his suffering…and all them many kids that will and already are going through this abuse…
I wish i can somehow help these childern in any way… anyone knows of little toddlers who need clothes or anything let me know..I can at least help kids in my own way .:(
