Adoption in the News: McDonald's Commercial and Peggy Hilt Is Interviewed

Thursday March 27, 2008

A new McDonald's commercial is really bugging some in the adoption community. Members of the Dollar Menu are sitting around a table as if in a meeting when the chicken nuggets suggests that the french fries are adopted. I felt stupid even typing that, but that's how the conversation brings about adoption.

Anyway, many are talking about the commercial on various boards and email loops. So what do you think? Is this just horrible and upsetting? Or are people getting bent out of shape for nothing? One adoptee noted that the fact that she can't get her hands on her original birth certificate is more upsetting and belittling as an adoptee than this commercial.

McDonald's Commercial - French Fries Adopted?

I recently learned that Peggy Hilt, who killed her 2-year-old Russian daughter, is being interviewed on Women Behinds Bars on the WE network tomorrow night. Reports stated that she was feeling very isolated and dealing with extreme behaviors from her new daughter. Again, another reason I feel that we as adoptive parents need to be very prepared for parenting and have our support systems in order before bringing a child home.

I have this one ready to record. It's an hour long show and Peggy Hilt is interviewed within the first half.

Women Behind Bars airs on the WE network on March 28, 2008 at 11pm EST. There are several more air dates if tomorrow night doesn't work for you.

WOW - I just watched the Peggy Hilt piece. I’ll have more thoughts on this later. There is MUCH to learn from this case. I feel sorry for all involved. This did not have to happen - many things could have been done before it came to this.
