Recommended Young Adult Summer Reading: Returnable Girl
Thirteen-year-old Ronnie has been "returned" for most of her young life. Nine times to be exact. Meaning she has been bounced from foster home to foster home since she was abandoned by her birth mother at the age of eleven. According to Ronnie's journal nine moves doesn't count emergency placements and some time with family.
A novel inspired by the work author Pamela Lowell has done as a family therapist. Returnable Girl, may be a work of fiction, but it rings true with it's plot and characterization. Returnable Girl is an excellent book that keeps the reader interested in the story as well as the characters until the very end. It is a quick paced read that my teen son, a former foster child, also enjoyed as he could identify with the main character.
I would highly recommended this book for teens, especially those who have been in the foster care system. But, be aware parents as there is language, teen depression, discussion of sex acts and some violence. If this were a movie it would probably be rated PG-13. However, Returnable Girl is so well written, I had no problem allowing my child to read this book.

i love this book, im reading it for the third time!!!
i love this book its kool nd itz great for teens
this was possibly the best, most moving book I’ve ever read. I let my daughter read it a few weeks ago, and she cried from the struggles Ronnie faced, and the similarities they had went through, aside from the foster care situation. Overall, it was a VERY well written and descriptive book.
