Foster care parents in San Diego County, California recently received a letter that stated foster care subsidy checks may be reduced or withheld until the budget is ironed out. According to reports there are about 1500 foster parents and 5,000 foster children in San Diego County alone. This leaves foster parents wondering how they will meet the needs of their foster children during these tough economic times. California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is implementing unpaid days off to state workers in an effort to relieve the over-worked budget.
I wonder how many other counties or states around the United States will have to do similar cuts in order to save budgets? Have you received a letter with similar scary news from your foster care agency? How do you plan to tighten your belt as foster parents?
