(2) Heather says:

Adoption is one of the hardest and the most rewarding thing I have ever been through. Wea re adopting through Foster Care System. The Foster Care system in my county is broken. This is my second go around with the Sysytem My first placement I was placed with a lovely little girl who was given back to her mom, which everyone knew was wrong. After a year and a half out on her own her mom has deceided that she did not want her anymore and now I have guardianship of her beacuse the Social Worker did the bare minimum and gave her back to her mom.
However my 2nd round has been a dream. I was placed with a newborn from the hospital. And this worker has been great and very aware of our concerns about the mother coming back and taking the baby, but the mom has never claimed her in any way.

You have to really ask yourself if you are willing to take on someonelse’s problems and help the child who did not ask to be born or brought up in the situation that they are in. If you can handle the emotional roller coster ride, I believe that you will get so much more than you can ever give. The kids need someone who will love them uncoldionally as an individual not as a trouble child, but just a kid who is in the wrong place, time and with the wrong people.

(3) Adopted Momof2 says:

Adoption has its challenges, yet the reward out weighs these 100 fold. I am an advocate for Families Supporting Adoption. We have seen all sides with infertility, 2 failed placements, and 2 designated adoptions (B-Mom’s chose us.)

Be prepared for your life to be invaded with questions about you as parents, but remember what the outcome is. Always keep this in mind as you go through the mountain of paperwork. If this is the way for your child to find you, so be it.

We have 2 beautiful children whome we love. They are our children and would never trade the experiences we have had because of the great joy they bring into our lives. Our first placement was at the agency with the birth family. Second was at the hospital. Both were amazing in their own rights.

Research who you go with very carefully. Find out what the costs are and when they need to be paid. Be leary if they want the money up front prior to a child being placed with you. Find out about pass through birth mother expenses and if a placement doesn’t occur-are you responsible still for them or is the agency? Remeber your child will come, which way will it be?

Good luck!

As a clinical social worker having been in adoption almost 45 years, I just want to say it is a wonderful experience as long as you go into it with your eyes opened. Remember adoption is built on loss….someone’s loss is your gain. Check your real motivation, your expectations from the child need to be realistic. Think about adopting an older child, they need love, just as much as little ones, maybe more. Understand the underlying reason mother’s give up children or children are taken away, drugs or alcohol.
ALWAYS know as much early history as possible. keep on until agencies tell you.
Then make an informed decision based on fact it will be a constant learning experience for all of your family. It is a journey, with all it’s ups and down’s rewards are little , but l ast a life time. Someone has to care about those little “angels” who are innocent victiums of a system they did not create, just survive.

(5) Linda Webber says:

Does not a child deserve to be raised by his natural family whenever possible? Does not a natural Mother and Father deserve to raise their own children whenever possible? I have held many Mothers and adoptees in my arms as they sobbed about the losses they share from separating them from each other.Adoption is an over 2 billion dollar industry and seldom is the pain it creates acknowledged and if it is it tends to be minimized. The main reason women lose their infants to adoption is due to a lack of a support system.
