What were the top 20 countries being adopted from in 2007?

Wednesday June 25, 2008

It took awhile to locate the official numbers for 2007 as the State Department took their sweet time posting them. But I got them published here as I know that there are lots of people like me (good hearted, nerds) who love statistics.

The top three countries for international adoption remain the same as 2006, with China, Guatemala and Russia. In 2007, Ethiopia moved up into 4th place from 5th with an increase of 523 adoptions. It seems that the number of international adoptions as a whole are continuing to drop and have been since 2005. This is definitely a different trend since international adoptions began climbing in 1993.

The drop in international adoptions is probably due to countries closing, longer waiting periods, and changes to the international adoption process in general.
