Can I Adopt From Other States?

By Carrie Craft, About.com

Question: Can I Adopt From Other States?

Answer:

Yes. The Adoption and Safe Families Act, passed in 1997, requires state agencies to accomplish a child's move from foster care to adoption within a certain amount of time. The bill also removes barriers to adoption by prohibiting states from delaying or denying a placement if an approved family is available outside the state. Go to the Adoption by State page and find your state and surrounding ones for more information on each state's adoption process.
