Your adoption is final so now it's time to celebrate to get the word out! I have always enjoyed making my own announcements. I made my birth daughter's announcements so I wanted to do the same for my sons. When I did a search for announcements I had a tough time finding ones that were appropriate for an older child adoption. It was a good thing I was going to make my own anyway! Here is what I did:
- 1. I took a piece of card stock and cut it to size. I included my announcements in my Christmas Cards as our adoption was final in November, so the announcement had to fit inside the card. This saved on postage too! So when sizing your card make sure you can find envelopes that will accommodate your card.
- 2. I found a great poem about adoption and changed the words to fit our circumstance of adopting three. I printed this on a contrasting color of paper.
- 3. I pasted the poem on the card stock a little lower and center to allow for a hole to be punched at the top of the card stock.
- 4. I printed another slip of paper off with the children's names and birth dates and pasted this on the back of the card stock.
- 5. Take a 4-inch piece of ribbon and fold it in half. Poke the folded end through the hole from the undeside of the card stock. then bring the ends of the ribbon up over the top edge of the card stock and through the loop of the ribbon - pull tight. This should make a nice knot with the two ends of the ribbon hanging down on the card stock. Cut the ends if they are too long.
- 6. I found a great picture of all my children and slipped the announcements and the pictures into my Christmas Cards. Done!
