Another option available to those wishing to adopt a newborn is to adopt from an expectant mother. There are associated risks with this choice and there are many things to consider before choosing this path.


Some Advantages Could Include

  • Getting to meet the expectant mother.
  • Having an open adoption with the birth family.
  • Having the child with you immediately after birth barring any medical complications.
  • The possibility of being with the expectant mother during labor and delivery.
  • Possible pre-natal care for the expectant mother.

Some Disadvantages Could Include

  • The cost. This could include rent, medical, and legal fees of the expectant mother.
  • Having the adoption fall through - emotional hurt as well as financial.
  • The infant being still born, which is a risk with almost all pregnancies.
  • The emotions connected with meeting the expectant mother.
  • The wait to find an expectant mother who is seeking adoption as an option.
  • Unethical practices of an attorney or agency.
