Is Adoption Open to Everyone?

By Carrie Craft, About.com

Question: Is Adoption Open to Everyone?

Answer:

Almost anyone can adopt. You can be single, retired, gay, lesbian, or be of any race and/or religion. (Each state or country will have its own rules regarding gay and lesbian adoption.)

You also don't have to be rich to adopt. You don't have to own your own home, renting is just fine. You don't have to be childless or an experienced parent.

You will have to pass a check into your criminal history. Most states will be looking for violent crimes and crimes against children.
