Fatima Whitbread Is an Olympic Athlete and a Famous Adoptee

Birth and Adoption :
Born in London in 1961, she was abandoned in an apartment by her birth mother. She was found three or four days later once a neighbor heard her crying. She spent the next several years living in children's homes and suffering horrifying visits with her birth family. At the age of 14 she was adopted by her javelin coach, Margaret Whitbread.
Olympic Record:
She competed in three Olympics. She won the bronze medal for javelin in 1984 and the silver in 1988. She represented the UK.
Fun Fact:
She is half Turkish and Greek.
What is she doing now?:
She retired in 1992 and now lives in Shenfield, Essex with her husband and son. Today she is active in the British Hate Crimes Commission and sports sponsorships.
