- The Government Accountability Office(GAO) conducted a survey between November 2006 and January 2007 on why African American children make up the majority in foster care numbers. Key contributing factors? Poverty, bias and difficulty in finding adoptive parents.
- New legislation was approved by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich that allows adoptees the same benefits available to biological children upon the death of a parent. Before, adopted children were shut out from receiving benefits by 15 different pension codes.
