The month brought us Father's Day and the sharing of memories for the fathers in our lives, both birth, adoptive, and foster.
The new Miss Oklahoma, Kelsey Cartwright, chose open adoption as her platform for her 2008 reign. This was due to the struggle her father, an adoptee, went through in order to find information on his birth family.
- We helped newly foster or adopted children prepare for the 4th of July.
- And wondered how MTV was going to handle the sensitive subject of adoption on their True Life drama series, I'm Placing my Baby for Adoption!. But after a quick interview with an MTV person in the know, we all breathed a little easier and look forward to the show in 2009.
- The May issue of Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine reported that more adopted teens require therapy than their non-adopted peers. The report also suggested that a teen needing additional help does not point to a parenting failure. Good to know!
- Many understanding comments were posted in response to the troubles one adoptive family was having with an adopted child. How does one go about seeking help for a child and when does a family remove a child to keep others in the home safe?
