Dr. Ruth Westheimer

Birth : Born in Frankfurt, Germany into a Orthodox Jewish family on June 4 1928, Karola Ruth Siegel, was an only child.
Foster Care Experience: At the age of 10, her father was thrown into a prison camp and Ruth's mother sent her out of Germany until things were better in Germany with Hitler's rein and the hatred of the Jews. The school in Switzerland turned into an orphanage for all of the German children that had been sent there. Because of the Holocaust Ruth never saw her grandparents or parents again. Ruth remained in the school for 6 years.
Claim to Fame: Dr. Ruth came to the United States in 1956 and obtained her master's degree in sociology and a doctorate in education. In 1980, she started a radio program, Sexually Speaking. The 15 minute spot turned into an hour long call-in show.
Fun Facts:
  • After leaving her school in Switzerland, Dr. Ruth went to Palestine. She became a freedom fighter and fought for the country's independence. She was injured by shrapnel from an explosion.
  • Dr. Ruth taught Kindergarten in Paris.
