Ignorance of the pregnancy is no excuse for not signing the registry. The sexual act itself lets the adoption proceed without the putative fathers consent if has not signed the registry within 30 days after the childs birth or has not otherwise legally established fatherhood. Minn. Stat. sec. 259.52(8) (1999).*An asterisk (*) means that the state, by statute, regards a putative fathers ignorance of the pregnancy or the birth as no excuse for not registering with the putative father registry.
