How To Create a Bigger Hand Print Flower With Child's Photo

By , About.com Guide

A bigger version of the single hand print flower, this flower features a photo of the child as the center. A great way to remember this time of a child's growth with not only his/her hand print but a photo.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 30 Minutes Plus Drying Time
Here's How:
  1. Coat the child's palm including the fingers with a bright color of tempera paint. In the center of a a large (17" X 14") piece of white paper place the child's hand on the paper and lift off leaving the print.
  2. Re-coat the hand with the same color and make another print next to the first print but rotating it 45 degrees. Continue making prints in an almost closed circle leaving a gap at the bottom for a stem later and a space in the middle for the center of the flower. Continue coating the hand and making prints until you have 6 prints in the above described fashion. Have a wet paper towel or baby wipe handy for easy clean-up of the hand.
  3. Using green tempera paint create the stem coming down from the center of the hand print circle with a paint brush. Also paint leaves and grass at the bottom.
  4. While the paint dries cut a large yellow circle from construction paper. Make sure the circle is large enough to cover the space left in the middle of the hand print flower.
  5. Paste a large picture of the child onto the yellow circle. Having a close up of the child's smiling face is cute. Leave a border of yellow around the picture.
  6. After the paint has dried glue the yellow circle onto the center of the hand print flower.
  7. Add the child's name, age, and date.
  8. Frame as a gift or give as is; this will surely be treasured by family.
What You Need:
  • Tempera paint in any bright color as the "flower" - I wouldn't go with green
  • Green tempera paint for the stem and leaves of the "flower"
  • Large piece of white paper
  • Yellow construction paper
  • Photo of your child - enlarged on a color copier
  • Wet paper towel or baby wipes
  • Your child's hand and imagination
