In My Heart by Molly Bang is a beautiful book that expresses a parent's love and how love and attachments continue even when people are physically apart. The mother, who is a part of a interracial family, explains to her child that as she goes about her daily tasks, she carries her child within her heart. The mom then explains that the same is true for the child, throughout the day, he too carries his loved ones within his heart.

A cute, beautifully illustrated story, In My Heart may help children to understand how attachment and love can continue over time and space. A valuable lesson to adopted or foster children.

About the Author and Illustrator

Molly Bang has won three Caldecott Honors for The Grey Lady and the Strawberry Snatcher, Ten, Nice, Eight and When Sophie Gets Angry - Really, Really, Angry. Molly Bang resides in Livermore, California and Falmouth, Massachusetts.

Final Thoughts and More Information

In My Heart is beautifully illustrated and written. The bright colors are fun for young readers and invite them to explore each page. The story gives reassurance to the child that they are remembered throughout the day and how being apart physically doesn't mean an end to that attachment or bond.

I definitely recommend In My Heart to adoptive and foster families. In My Heart depicts a multiracial family and presents a fun, colorful world full of love and acceptance.

In My Heart is recommended for ages 4 to 8.
