The first step in trying to find birth parents is to write everything you know about yourself and your adoption. Besides getting your non-identifying information, it may even be the most important step toward finding birth parents.
Do not leave anything out, even if you think it's not important.
For example:- What has your adoptive family told you about your adoption?
- Did they happen to mention your birth parent's age when you were born?
- Did an aunt once tell you that your birth parents were college students or heading toward a prison sentence?
- Do you know how many birth siblings you have?
Even if you wonder whether or not the information is correct, write it down. All of these details will help you find your birth parents.
Here is The Adoption Search Questionnaire that our team of search angel volunteers helped in creating. Please take your time and fill out as completely as possible and do so before contacting a volunteer. The next step before speaking to a volunteer is to register on an adoption registry and receive your non-identifying information.
