Adoption consent refers to the birth parent or agency that is acting in place of a birth parent, to release or relinquish a child for adoption.
Answer: Some States allow allow birth parents to give consent at any time after the birth of their child. Other States require a waiting period before consent can be given.

- shortest are 12 to 24 hours
- only 2 States, Hawaii and Alabama, allow the birth mother the right to consent before the birth of her child
