On the fourth day of Christmas Preparations, my true love gave to me:
Four fighting kids,
Three snow days,
Two calling workers
and a well planned respite weekend.

Yes, sometimes it seems like children miss the fact that this is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. There is little Timmy accusing Susie of "staring" at him over the breakfast table. This, of course, evolves into a push and shove match. What about little Bobby having a screaming fit from the shopping cart which leaves Mom wishing for some holiday down time.

How should you handle kids fighting and maintain peace on Earth?

  1. Play the Santa card. Why not. Is it bribery? Nah. If they're young enough and still believe in the big guy - gently remind them that Santa knows who's been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake! If they've outgrown Santa - (call me with your ideas.)

  2. Give the kids space - Perhaps during break from school they are just spending too much time together. Try separating them with different activities or send Timmy off with a neighbor and Susie shopping with you. They'll enjoy having special time doing different activities and all will enjoy not hearing, "stop looking at me."

  3. Boredom makes for some cranky kids - Check out the actives on Family Crafts site for things to do.
