We've Been a Forever Family Since...
Type of Adoption and Age(s) of Child(ren)
I adopted a daughter from foster care, 15 months old at the time, and have two foster children I am waiting to adopt at this time.
My Family's Adoption Story
I was called about a 15 month old little girl. When I went to pick her up I was told that this placement could be long term. I think I knew from the minute I met her that I was going to love her forever. She was sent away from her previous foster home for crying to much. She never cried with me. I think she knew she was home too. I love this little girl more than anything in the world. Making her happy is what my life is about since she came to me.
- Adopting from foster care is a difficult experience. It takes forever sometimes, there are so many times throughout the experience that you don't know how it will all turn out in the end. I would not do anything differently. As difficult as the process was I am doing it again, and not one time, but two.
Carrie Craft, Adoption / Foster Care Guide, says:
What an awesome story. True, when doing foster care adoption, it is often uncertain if the foster family will be able to adopt. Social workers must first determine if there are family or other kin available to take the child. Foster care adoption is not for the faint of heart.
