Adoption Tragedy in Texas

Thursday August 19, 2004

7 adopted children were abandoned in Nigeria last October when their adoptive mother dropped them off with a relative of her fiancé. After tuition ran out for school and the relative abandoned them, they ended up in an orphanage, malnourished and sick. The children, ranging in ages from 8 - 16, have been trying to convince people that they were Americans since arriving in Africa. Finally, a visiting youth pastor from San Antonio believed their stories after hearing their American (Texan) accents. He then called American lawmakers, who investigated and sent the children papers allowing them to travel back to America. They children are now in 2 separate foster homes, but visit each other daily. The adoptive mother is under investigation for her treatment of the children and for continuing to receive her monthly subsidy of $512 per child!
