Finally, Another State Looks at Post Adoption Agreements
Monday January 22, 2007
According to a January 20, 2007, article in the StarNewsOnline.com, Panel proposes adoption rules, North Carolina is looking at legislation that would set enforceable rules for agreements made regarding visitation with birth family.
I think this is extremely important as some adoptive parents promise continued contact with birth family after finalization, but don't honor their word. At this time, in the U.S. only 13 states have laws to enforce post adoption contracts.
As someone who knows of couples who make false promises in order to adopt, I think this is a step in the right direction.

hi i am an adoptive parent that has entered into a post adoption agreement. my son was a foster child and removed from the home. the court stripped parental rights and found the grandparents unfit to raise him. the agreement is with the maternal grandparents. we have been doing this agreement for almost a year and i am fixing to put a stop to it, my son is three and they are showing him pictures of bio mom and telling him im not his mom im not being selfish, but hes never known her he was 2 weeks old when he was placed with us, then they have their drug addict son sleeping in the same room as him when hes there. im just sick of it and feel that if dss and the court find these people unfit why should i have to let him see them. hes my son now and if i gave birth to him i could choose who he sees.
