Adoptive Parents Are New Millionaires Thanks to Powerball

By December 2, 2012

Follow me on:

Mark and Cindy Hill of Missouri were shocked to learn that they were one of two winners of the biggest Powerball jackpot to date, $587.5 million. The couple adopted their daughter from China five years before and in recent interviews have shared that they are now considering adopting again.

If you won a large amount of money - what would you do to help the adoption community? Would you adopt a child internationally or lobby for adoptee rights? Would you go all Madonna and help a whole nation in Africa or donate large sums of money like the Jolie-Pitts? How could your windfall help foster children?

My Wife and I had thought about this. If we would have won, we were going to buy vans for as many as we could that are doing Foster Care/Adoption. I know there are many other things we would have tried to do as well. We have 4 Foster Children 2 of which we are in the process of adopting and a biological son . There is times that we do not all get to go somewhere because our vehicle only seats 6 and there is now 7 in our family. In January we plan to buy a minivan. We love what we do and we are thankful for all of you that give these gifts of God a good home and love

A year ago we were given a van. Nothing fancy, a 1996 E-150, but it runs good and is fine for around town. Prior to that, our second vehicle only seated 2 and we have 4 adopted kids. We used to have to swap vehicles when one of us dropped off the kids and the other picked them up. Not a hardship, to be sure, but an inconvenience. Reading the prior comment reminded me to make sure that man gets a Christmas card with our family photo and a big “thank-you again”.

Hi, there is so much they can do with that kind of money. They could help here to fight for open records. They could help foster families. It depends on what is important to them as to what they choose to do with their money.
