History of Helpusadopt.org
Helpusadopt.org was founded on November 1, 2007, by Kipp and Becky Fawcett, who after adopting their first child, wanted to create an organization to help those interested in adding to their family meet the financial burdens that prevent some adoptions from becoming a reality.
The couple also felt that there was a lack of non-judgmental, non-discriminatory adoption grant programs in the United States. According to executive director and co-founder Fawcett, Helpusadopt.org is the only organization that does not define family, charge applicants to apply, and supports all types of adoption - international and domestic. It's also important to note that Becky Fawcett does her work probono for the organization.
That is the most unique aspect of this organization, that they welcome diversity in adoptive families. Since their beginning, Helpusadopt.org has given $495,000 in adoption grants to sixty-five families.
The Grant Process
The grant cycle is every June and December. Helpusadopt.org offers grants that total $75,000 in sums that may range from $500 up to $15,000 per grant regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, marital status, or sexual orientation. The amount of grants given away differs each cycle, often increasing from the last.
Those interested in applying for an adoption grant must be U.S. citizens.
The application must be printed out and mailed.
You must be able to prove that you are able to provide a loving and secure home for a child through an already approved adoption home study.
All applications must be submitted by mail.
Applications from families with children will be accepted, but priority will be given to childless families.
All applications are reviewed by the grant selection committee.
Grants will be sent to the adoption service provider and not to reimburse the expenses already paid for an adoption.
If you have already received grant money from another organization you will need to explain all of this to Helpusadopt.org.
June grants are awarded on June 15 and December grants are awarded December 15.
Helpusadopt.org is a 501c3 organization and their adoption grants are funded primarily be individual donations.
- There are several ways to help:
Give a tax deductible donation.
Purchase one of their adoption jewelry items.
